My question involves a roommate in the State of: California
I live with 3 other roommates, all on a verbal month-to-month with the landlord. Two of the roommates have given notice that they will be leaving, with or without finding a new roommate. When each of them moved in they agreed to find a roommate to replace them before moving out (so that those remaining would not be stuck with the entire rent), but both are now breaking that verbal agreement. I have asked the landlord if they would be ok with only getting part of the rent while we kept looking for replacements, but was told if we could not pay the full rent they would find someone who could.
My question is, can my roommates break their verbal agreement that they made when moving in to find their replacement? This could end up leaving me and the other remaining roommate without a place to live. Is there anything I can do or are we all out of luck if no new roommates can be found?
