I am a California-based driver.
I posted a related question in another forum, but this just came to my attention.
I bought a used car from a dealer (Toyota certified if that adds any info) just 3 weeks ago. At the time of purchase, I paid the dealer to take care of the vehicle registration and still have proof of it (purchase documents). The dealer gave me a temporary license in a form of a piece of white paper, and stuck it onto the inside of the corner of the front windshield. I have not received my registration from the DMV yet.
Today, I got pulled over by CHP for expired registration. He ran my license plate and said the DMV computer is not showing that they received any registration paperwork from my dealer yet. Even so, is the CHP officer allowed to write me a ticket for an expired registration? I thought the temp. registration I got from the dealer was supposed to be valid for longer than 3 weeks?
Also, if the CHP officer has grounds to write me a ticket for non-current registration at this stage, then am I even allowed to drive my car around?
Thanks
