Post California Infraction for Petty Theft

Thank you for providing advice and help to my situation.

In 2003 I received a petty theft infraction in CA. I am trying to remember the case details. I know for a fact the store dropped the charges but the judge did not seem to want to drop the charges. It was my choice to take a Misdemeanor or an Infraction and my lawyer made the infraction seem like a better choice. I am looking for some insight into getting this off my record ( expunge the infraction ) . Have there been any similar cases in the past in CA and what seemed to be the best solution? This bothers me daily and I am currently looking for a job.
    Thank you for your help.

In California, infractions are not eligible for expungement.
