Red face Legal Help for Shoplifiting Case

One of my family member got acused of shoplifting (<$100) in Califonia south bay area . Can someone tell on how to get good attorney for that. Apprx how much that cost. If you know a good attorney in San Jose, Fremont, Milpitas , pl post his/her contact. I am not sure on how to get a good lawyer.
I am vey upset about it but I have no choice but to deal with it.

Also if you can answer one or more of following-
    1) Does she need a Lawyer to represent her in court. As per citation, she was
asked to be in court in Sep.

    2) Can the record be expunged as it is his first time offence.

    3) How much it cost (apprx) to get legal help.

    4) There are some online programs, do they help in removing the records. Whether she need to do the program now or after court appearance.

    5) Does he need to get finger printed. The citation says that. Should she go now for that.

    6) Is there a process to get a public defendent. If so whether that is good
    idea.
    Your early response is appreciated.

Also I talked to one attorney in San Jose. He asked a flat fee of $2000/- Is it what we are going to pay to attorney or should I talk to more attorneys.

I shall highly appreciate any help here.

Tell your relative to call some lawyers in her area and ask for quotes.

If she is capable of representing herself then she may choose to proceed without a lawyer, although most people benefit from representation.

Her criminal record is not going to magically disappear, even if she pays money to a "website".

If she has been instructed to be fingerprinted before her court date, she should do that.

If she wants to petition for a court-appointed lawyer, she can get a petition form from the criminal clerk's office.
