    Default Forced to Work Holiday

    State of Texas

Can an employer force you to work on paid holidays? When hired we are told we have X amount of paid holidays now they want us to work on said paid holidays. It is only my department that has to work on them.

Yes, you can be required to work on an otherwise paid holiday. Texas law does not require the employer offer paid holidays at all.

For that matter, neither does any other state.

There are two or three states, all in New England, that require that you be paid a premium for working on a holiday, but nowhere in the US does an employee of a private employer have a guaranteed right to holidays off, paid or unpaid (limited exceptions to the pay status for exempt employees ONLY).
