My question involves criminal law for the state of: Oklahoma
I live in Oklahoma. I am 18. I was with my girlfriend recently at a Dillards. We went to the dressing room and she handed me 2 pairs of jeans and said to put them in the bag that we already had, so I did. We left the dressing room, her carrying the bag, but were still in Dillards, when a security officer took us aside and we were given "Cite and release". This is my first offense. We were charged equally, even though I didn't carry the bag or leave the store. The total amount of the items was about $240. We were given a citation for larceny of merchandise and given an arraignment date. I don't know what to do. I am starting college, and I don't want this mistake to go on my record and prevent me from getting a job upon graduating. I don't know what to do though.
Is it possible that it will be taken off of my record within 4 years without me hiring an attorney? Should I plead guilty or not guilty?
I'm willing to pay a fine and do community service, the only issue is that I don't want it to go on my record.
