Default First Possession Charge / Paraphernalia

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Virginia (Spotsylvania County)

    To Whom it may concern,

This past May I received my first charge: possession of marijuana. A friend of mine came to visit from out of town and we were hanging out when another friend of mine, who I see frequently, asked if I could take him to see a friend. I agreed seeing as how he offered to buy me dinner to compensate for the drive. I live in Stafford county, so Spotsylvania is unfamiliar to me..so I was a little hesitant at first seeing as how I don't know many people in that area, but he (my frequent friend) was receiving directions through his cell phone.

We ended up in a culdesac near the courthouse in a small developing neighborhood. As we were pulling in, I was lead to believe that the "friend" of his was going to meet us there because I had no clue where to go from there. As we pull in, an SUV type vehicle came down from a dirt road, and I was still under the assumption, that was the friend. I rolled down my window to clarify my view. Lights started blinking and it turned out to be an undercover car. An undercover policeman opens my door, and tells us "we are not going to be scooping from ------ today" at this point, I had realized that I had taken my "friend" to a drug deal and I and my visiting friend, had now been tangled in the mess as well.

After they got my "frequent" friend in their vehicle, they had asked to search my car. With pure confidence, I let them. Turns out, they had found a bowl in my cup holder which I had completely forgot about.
I had found the bowl in my car earlier that day as we were getting into the vehicle to go eat, as I was making room for someone to sit in the back seat. I placed it in the cup holder with intentions of throwing it out when we got to the desired place of dining. Seeing as how I had never received anything in my life, other than one traffic ticket (failure to stop at a new stop sign), I agree, I made the wrong assumption of not getting rid of it then and there.
The officer came out and asked me if it were mine. Me, being the person who has never been in trouble with the law my whole 20 years of living, was already freaked out by the fact that I had been caught in a mess I had nothing to do with, AND by the fact that someone very close to me might be going to jail, just nodded and said yes. I didn't want any more trouble, or to cause anymore altercations than what was already being presented to me, and I didn't want anymore charges. PLUS, with my stupidity, at the time, I didn't want my "frequent" friend to get into any more trouble.
The officer ended up giving me a POSSESSION charge, seeing as how the bowl had residue in it. Realizing what I had done, I wonder if there is anyway I can now get out of this on my own. I was not given the option of a court appointed lawyer because I face no risk of jail time. But I really don't want to lose my license over something that was not mine. I am 20 years old, trying to go to school, I take care of my elderly parents, and I am currently trying to seek a new job to get on track with helping around my household and caring for a household of my own.

Is there any chance I would be able to fight this on my own? at least to a lesser charge than 6 months suspended license? My trial is in 4 days, and I am in desperate need of professional advice.

    HELP!

You're four days from trial and you haven't even bothered to consult a criminal defense lawyer yet? If that's true, get on the phone first thing Monday morning.

If you mean something other than trial, please clarify.

I've tried to call many offices for lawyer consultations, and I've left messages for them to call me back. I've done this for the past 3 weeks, and I have received no return phone calls.

I, myself, cannot afford a lawyer.
