I am a Canadian citizen, and completed a 2 year Master's program in the US May 2010 in North Carolina. After graduating I went to Boston where I stayed until 5 August, 2010. I entered Canada by land (bus) and the Canadian border officials removed my I-94 (D/S) from my passport. On August 11 2010 I tried to re-enter the US as a tourist, by land (bus) and was refused because
a) I had allegedly overstayed my student visa
b) I lacked sufficient clear ties to Canada
The border officer at the port of entry retained my visa documents and directed me to sign a form indicating that I withdrew my application to enter the US, and warned me that if I tried to reenter I would be automatically banned for 5 years. At first I gave them only my passport (because my entry to the US was unrelated to my previous F-1 visa) but then on their request I also gave them the Sevis form and the F-1 visa form with the signatures from my University's Visa office, both of which they retained.
Since I have been living in NC for the last 2 years it is impossible for me to produce a Canadian lease/pay stubs/official mail. Is there some way around this 2nd point?
I wish to normalize my status and once again be able to travel freely in the United States. Any advice from fellow users would be much appreciated. Thank you!
