Default Emancipation at the Age of 19

My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Mississippi
My daughter moved out after turning 18 and is now living in Mississipi on her own. She is living with her birth mother, who abandoned her shortly after birth and has had no parental rights since then. She has contacted me about emancipation. From what little I know of it, it seems that this legal procedure is for minors, and not someone who is 19 years old and well into adulthood, physically at least.

I cannot think of a valid reason to go through this procedure with an adult child, and am wondering if anyone would have any idea why this request would be made?

    Thank you.

There is only one reason I can think of.

She wants to go to college and you make too much for her to get the financial assistance she wants.

As Cyjeff notes, she THINKS that this will get her more financial aid.

She's thinking incorrectly. She's already legally emancipated, and has been since the age of 18. She's not eligible.
