    Default Violation Conviction: Should I File for N400

    Hi,

    Next Sept, I will be eligible to file for citizenship,

    Here is a brief description of my case:

    Feb 2005 : Marry to a US citizen
    Dec 2005: Obtained a conditional GC after STOKES interview
    AUG 2008: obtained permanent GC

    FEB 2009: Arrested and charged with patronizing a lady; charged reduced and pled guilty to a violation (CODE 240.20)

    SEPT2009: Divorced my wife
    2010: Been on a 5 month trip to Asia;

    Please someone can tell me if that conviction will deny my case?
    Should I wait 5 years from the conviction?

    Thank you all

    Here's information on patronizing a prostitute in the context of removal proceedings; it doesn't trigger removal. But the standards for obtaining citizenship are different. If it were me I would wait out the five years, or have an immigration lawyer review the specifics of my situation before applying.
