New York State.
A few days ago I was walking in my neighborhood with my son past a summer program at a public school. My son is very young and I was carrying him in a baby bjorn. I passed a group of children who looked in the junior high school age range. One of the girls grabbed another girl by the hair and began swinging her around in a circle and punching her. It was really awful and violent. My gut was to try and break it up but I did not approach the fight because I did not want my son getting hit.
Is there some good samaritan law that would protect me against frivolous lawsuits if I would have broken up the fight? Of course, I know this is the United States and people sue for anything, but would this situation be similar to when a bystander sees someone choking and attempts to help them?
