My question involves a background check in the State of: Texas
A contract firm offered me a job back at a previous place of employment which I accepted pending the good ol' background check. No problem. Nothing on my record, not so much as a parking ticket. I was offered the opportunity to start on Wednesday or Monday. I chose Monday so as to give current employer a week's notice (also a contract position). I was told that I was good for Monday start. Come Thursday I followed up to make sure everything was well, and discovered that the BC still had not been completed, expected Friday. Nope. ETA changed to Tuesday. Nope.
Got personally involved and they are saying they are "at the mercy of the courts". Baloney. I'm from a very small county in S. Georgia where everyone knows everyone else. Sheriff's deputy ran BC on me and nothing (naturally) came back. Called Clerk of Court, and they told me they have a data terminal in the other room that is used for pulling public records, and it's not used very much. So that argument won't hold water.
Contract firm, the umbrella agency, the place of business are all leaning on the BC company to get answers.
Bottom line: I *know* my BC is clean, and the BC company is keeping me from working without cause. What can I do?
