Default Changing an Infant's Last Name from Father's to Hypenated

My question involves name change laws in the State of: tennessee

My seven-month-old son has his father's last name and I am completely fine with that. His father and I have never been married and probably won't be. I have another child, who has my last name. My question is, I don't want to remove the father's last name but I would be interested in adding mine to his birth certificate to where he would have a hyphenated name. Like John wayne Mom's last name-dad's last name. Do I still need his father's consent to do this or is this something I can do on my own since I don't want to take his father's name off? I would just like both my children to have a last name in common with their mother. This is also my maiden name and I've never been married. Thanks for any infomation you have.

You will need the father's consent to change the child's name, or will need to convince a court over the father's objection that the name change is in the child's best interest.
