A peace bond, in Canadian law, is an order from a criminal court that requires a person to keep the peace. Usually, other conditions are attached such as a requirement to abstain from certain activities or avoid communicating, directly or indirectly with certain individuals and/or avoid certain locations or individuals, A peace bond is entered into in lieu of criminal charges or as a requirement for charges to be withdrawn.
The bond can last for up to twelve months. Violation of the peace bond can make one subject to arrest or result in a fine. It is written under Section 810 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
