I worked in LP and the company I worked for, we never lied about the police to get an admission statement.
As for your husband getting charged, LP really doesn't have to do it. Since they will have to report the theft to DEA, and sometimes local law enforcements drug enforcement units, the feds/police will probably seek charges after a thorough investigation, aided by whatever evidence LP has.
Also, your husband can pretty much kiss a career in health care and specifically pharmacy, good bye. Once the state licensing board finds out he will probably have his license suspended/revoked pending the outcome of criminal charges. Since he's already admitted guilt, odds are he won'd get his license back. And suspensions/revocation inquiries are pretty standard application questions.
