My question involves criminal law for the state of: Tennessee
Earlier today a friend and I were caught shoplifting over $160 in make-up. The ironic thing is that I was actually getting ready to take everything out of my purse after I got into the bathroom. Unfortunately, they thought we were going into the bathroom to 'open' the make-up to seem like we hadn't stolen it, so they waylayed us by telling us the bathroom was 'closed for maintenance' and to spread it around. I wanted an area that was not packed with people so that I could take everything out of my purse. However, we real actually had to go to the bathroom so we decided to leave the store with the merchandise still within my purse and was dragged back into the store. They ended up splitting the total amount into half and put half on my case file and half on my friends. It is still just over $80 each. We go in to get processed this weekend and fingerprinted and such.
We both acknowledge that it was not the brightest thing to do. It was a spur of the moment decision and very idiotic.
What do you think will happen and any advice on how to lessen it? Help!!
