    Default Allowance for Slowing Down

    State of WA/ID

Is there an allowance of a number of feet they give you to slow down after a speed limit sign is posted, or are you supposed to be at that speed by the time you reach the sign?

Say you're doing 60 in a posted 60mph zone out on the highway and round a corner to immediately notice a 25mph sign you just passed with an officer sitting on the other side of it with his radar on, ready to write you a ticket for 60 in a 25.

the speed limit is what it is at the point of the sign. If you are going 26mph 1' beyond the sign, you are speeding and subject to a ticket.

there are some defenses to a situation such as you present. Sometimes people win, sometimes not.
