I was fired from my house painting job in Massachusetts because my boss found a business card of mine that I put at a hardware store in CT 15 miles from where he does most of his work. I was simply trying to get some extra work on my own. He says I am in direct competition with him but I've had my cards in circulation for a year and have not got a single call or job on my own. I do not have tax id #'s or license or insurance because I figured why spend the money until I actually got a job. I never signed a contract saying I would not try and get my own work nor did my boss ever tell me I could not, however I am sure he will tell the mediator otherwise. He was very angry and said he would fight me getting unemployment. When he fired me he asked me to sign a paper he had made up basically saying that I was going to pursue my own work, wich I refused to sign. I imediatly filed my claim and was told it would take 4 to 8 weeks to determine my eligability, and that a mediator would get in touch with both me and my boss. Will I be eligable? I'm sure I qualify finacially.
Thank you to anyone who can give me some insight on this.

Mike
