Exclamation Misdemeanor Class B Shoplifting Charge, Texas

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas
I was in Dilliards with my 16year old sister and she stole some clothes adding up to 52$. When we were escorted to the security office, I took her bag with the merchandise in it. I took the wrap for her saying it was mine and she knew nothing about it. I stayed 3 days in a county jail. My court date is comming up and I would like to know whether to tell the truth or simply plead guilty. I'm a college student and I just don't want to end up serving jail time and missing class. I have no past charges, so what do youthink would be my worst punishment?
Q The best thing to say at my court date?

Q What would be the worst punishment

Jail for a first offense is pretty rare. It happens, but not often.

You should plead Not Guilty and ask for a Public Defender. (Assuming you cannot afford private counsel.) An attorney may be able to help you get into a diversion program, which would consist of paying fines, attending anti-shoplifting classes, and probation.
