Default 14 Year Old Daughter and 20 Year Old Man

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Florida
hello, i recently found out that my 14 year old daughter is seeing this 20 year old man. i have no proof that they did anything sexual with eachother but i told this boy not to see my daughter. i recently found a conversation on her computer between the two of them one day when she left her instant messanger up on the screen. now the conversation is a friendly conversation but parts of it are "lovey dovey" and some parts are a bit sexual. and i expressed to to him and her both how i do not want him speaking to each other except for a godly greeting while at church. now i am wondering if i can press any charges against this boy for disrespecting my wishes and continuing relationship with my daughter. i know now they are dating. but do not know if its anything sexual.
    thank you.

File a Restraining Order against the man.

you can tell your child to stay away from the guy and to not have any contact with the guy.

you can do the same to the guy.

then, if it continues, you can file for a restraining order against the guy and you can call the police. There are a few laws that might come into play depending on exactly what can be proven. You might want to copy any conversations between the two.

Personally, if it were me, I would tell the guy to get lost and to never have any contact with my daughter, period. a 20 yo chasing a 14 you is sick and creepy. Allowing it is negligent on your part, in my opinion.

Well I know that this man is on felony probation but I don't exactly want to ruin his life and whatever future he may have. I just want to keep him away from my child.

Wow. You are worried about a felon that is having contact with your 14 year old daughter? Wow.

How about you just worry what this ADULT might do to your LITTLE GIRL...Okay.

Decisions that he might make that result in hardship in his life are HIS problem. YOUR problem is protecting your child, even if that means that criminals get treated like criminals.

I can understand why you are having a heart for someone trying to rebuild their life, but he is violating your wishes. I am all for giving those with a criminal past a chance, but they have responsibility for their own actions. It is not appropriate for a 14 yr old to be having anything with a 20 year old other than hi and bye.

As stated already, if you already confronted him, then you have the right to get a restraining order, then contact the police. But mind you, unless he committed any crimes, the police will not be able to do anything. The restraining order applies to the physical realm, but on the internet, thats a different story because he can very well change his screen name, and jus monitor his actions. My best suggestion is talk to your daughter and let her know the dangers of this relationship and what it could result in if he is caught.

Also, you stated he is on probation? You can call the department of corrections and ask for probation and explain your problem. Coupled with the restraining order, he can violated.

But ultimately, do what ever it takes to protect your child within the confines of the law.

Oh, there are programs out there that can record your daughters actions while she is on the internet. This way you will have evidence. It wouldnt be a bad idea to contact your internet service provider and see if they have an option to cut off her internet connection according to her mac address, this way you have control of when she can use the computer.

There are many things you can do, but as stated, do whatever it takes to protect your child. Hope this helps.

If nothing else, contact your police department and see if they have anything that can help you with this issue. Nowadays police departments are pretty proactive regarding sexual predators.

    Good luck!
