Default Can Fondling Charges Be Dropped

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Mississippi

I was arrested and charged with fondling a 15yo girl (I'm way over 18). I admitted everything to the police and my attorney. I have been to six months of professional therapy and am in a men's support group. The mother does not want to press charges or send me to jail. Is there any chance the charges will be dropped, or am I doomed since I admitted to it to the police?

Default Re: Can Fondling Charges Be Dropped

There's always a chance....but the mother isn't the victim here, and the vicitm is typically the ONLY one who is allowed input (input NOT meaning that their wish will be followed, only that they are allowed to express their opinion)...and the state has the responsibility of prosecuting crimes on behalf of ALL members of society, so what the mother wants is completely irrelevent. Prosecutors get paid to prosecute, not to drop cases if they can make them. If you've confessed, hoping the charges will be dropped is a VERY long shot. Still, that doesn't necessarily mean jail must be part of a sentence. It's possible, given that you've been participating in a program, that probation and any applicable sex offender registration requirements may be the most likely outcomes. Your attorney, who practices in the court in question, will be most knowledgeable about the sentencing history of your particular judge in similar cases and is in the best position to tell you what to expect.
