    Default Studying Overseas

    Hi everyone

I received my Green Card in Jan 2006 and I am planning to apply for naturalisation in Jan 2011. I didn't leave the States until Aug 2008, when I received an offer to study law in Hong Kong. Since then, I come back to NY once every 6-7 months (i.e. summer and Christmas), and usually stay for 1-2 weeks each time.

I will finish my study in May 2011 and I have checked that I do meet the 2 1/2 years requirement for naturalisation. I am just not sure if my stay in Hong Kong will affect my application. Can anyone please give me some advice? Thanks in advance!!!

    Colin

Have you received an interview date yet?

You can try to argue that your foreign educational program was a temporary stay abroad, and thus shouldn't be deemed to interrupt your residency.
