Marin County, Carpool Lane Violation Fine $465

I have received a ticket in the mail for $465 for Improper use of preferential lanes (VC 21655.5(b)) in southern Marin County, CA right after the Stinson Beach exit on Northbound 101. This is the first time I have gotten such a ticket and I have only got 1 speeding ticket about 9 years ago in New York. I was well under the speed limit and getting written up by the officer went without incident. I will admit I am at fault, but the carpool sign on the highway says the minimum fine is $271...but why on earth is the ticket for $465? Any advice/help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm responding to my own post here. Look like $465 is somewhat standard from perusing this site...so i'm just coming to terms with the fine. So now i'm just curious the traffic signs say $271 minimum?

The sign would be correct even if it said $13.75. As far as the inflated fine, California is wasting money far more quickly that they can figure out ways to get it. The state has no incentive to spend money changing the signs.
