Hello,
I am a freelance graphics artist who works on small projects for people I know, and I have several copyright questions involving
my latest project. (I live in North Carolina if that helps)
3 months ago, I recorded video footage of a local band playing live music for the birthday of one of the band members.
We took this footage and created an entire DVD with the footage. However there are several copyright issues I wish to bring up.
1: 7 out of the 10 songs played are actually covers of other peoples songs. Will we need to acquire a license to sell them?
2: On the DVD there are 2 songs that are used as background music for a Band Slideshow and Credits, that were played
and recorded by another band. Will we have to get a license to have those on there?
3: If the process would be overly complex, could we merely give these DVD's away to friends and family or those who ask?
Or would that be considered unauthorized distribution of copyrighted Material?
This is a very small band that is extremely local and has almost zero budget. If there are any questions about the Media used,
please ask, and I will reply as soon as possible.
