Angry Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree

My question involves criminal law for the state of: NY
My friend is 30 years old and is facing a charge of grand larceny to the 3rd degree. (5,000 in cc and 4,000 in checks). He has no priors. His first court date for grand jury is in a couple of months.
What kind of time is he looking at? What should he be expecting?

He should discuss the specifics of his case with a criminal defense lawyer. There's no way to give you a meaningful answer based on so few facts.
