My current status is J-1. My DS2019 expires in 30 days from now. I want to apply for change of status from J-1 to F-1. But I found out that my I-94 is lost. The immigration office of the college that I got I-20 from recommend to submit the application with the copy of I-94. Do I still need to get my old I-94 replaced? Cause I know that in case my change of status application is approved USCIS will send me a new I-94.
Is it true that for change of status I can submit the copy of I-94 instead of the original?
If not, can I apply for change of status with a copy and the at the same apply for the replacement of lost I-94? How long does it take to get it replaced? My I-94 did not have entry/departure dates, only D/S. Am I eligible to apply for it when my current status expires in 30 days from now?
I have worked so hard to get accepted to my college and its a great pity that I can lose all my chances only because I lost my I-94.
Please, help with some advise!
