Default Citizenship and Shoplifting Charge Dismissal

    Hello!

I am a college student and am applying for citizenship, and a few months ago, I was stupid enough to shoplift. I was given a ticket and when I showed up to court, my arresting officer came in and got the charges dismissed on the spot. I didn't speak to anyone, so no plea was entered or anything. I will have to tell them about my arrest, and that the outcome was a dismissal. How will this affect my application? Will it be rejected because of this 'moral turpitude'?

    thanks so much!

You will likely have to disclose and explain an arrest but, as you did not admit to shoplifting and were not convicted, the result shouldn't be viewed by the USCIS as a conviction unless you admit to them that you engaged in acts which constituted the offense.

so does this mean that I don't have to worry about being rejected by immigration for citizenship?
