Okay, bare with me. This is hard for me to think about, let along type. Back when I was 13 or 14 (I'm now almost 20), I gave oral sex to my then 8 or 9 year old half-nephew. It's disgusting and just plain out wrong, but at the time I was in the early stages of puberty and I wasn't thinking. No excuse, of course, but when I apply to become a police officer after I get my Bachelors at age 22, will this stop me from becoming one?

My record is completely clean, never have taken drugs or even smoked weed. All I have is one speeding ticket from a year ago. Honestly, this haunts me because I really want to become a police officer and I don't want my one horrific mistake to hinder that.

Please take it easy on me...

    Well...sigh...

Were you convicted of child molestation? Was this child molestation mentioned in counseling records?

Do you think, morally, that a child molester should be on the police force?

No I wasn't. And I was a child myself, barely starting puberty and curious. At the time I didn't think that what I was doing was wrong, the whole thing lasted less than 15 minutes...
Ummmm...You were an adolescent. Your nephew was a child. The time it took for you to molest this little boy is irrelevant.

BTW: The little boy can STILL report you.

If I were that child I would become VERY worried that the person that molested me was in LE.

Does his parents know what happened? How is this little boy doing now? Is he experiencing any problems due to the rape?

Is the revelation an automatic bar to law enforcement? No.

Would it give an agency tremendous pause in hiring you? Yep!

Depending on your state this could still be a reportable and prosecutable criminal offense. You may have been a teenager at the time, but I strongly suspect that in whatever state you are from this act would have constituted a felony. To be sure you might want to speak with an attorney in your state.

It probably wasnt a good idea to come on here and ask questions of this delicate nature. 50$ to an attorney would have had this question answered, honestly, and unbiasedly. Careful where you air out your laundry cause you never know who is listening.

Especially with the way sex crimes are being handled these days, this could very well haunt you for the rest of your life. People will come off with digust because, bottom line, its disgusting and most wont be so kind to it regardless of age and when it happened. So my suggestion to you is to speak to an attorney about your question.

    Good luck
