    Default Transportation Via Third Party

Michigan. I have read the guidelines concerning having a third party pick up the children for parenting time, and the only reference that I can find says 'the parent or an immediate family member'. In this context, does a live in fiance count as an immediate family member? The definition of same seems to be a matter of personal interpretation, as he has been going to court for the last 18 months over this and various other issues with the ex, and some say yes, then another will say no. Input anyone? TIA!

    I would say "No".

Brother, sister, father or mother would qualify.

Thanks BSG. This poor guy just can't catch a break. With his new work schedule, he is not always available to pick up his kids at the designated time, and ex objects to fiance picking them up (yet, if mom has plans, she will call the fiance and ask to drop them off with her). The newest court order says that it's acceptable or the girls to be picked up by fiance, but ex informed him that she doesn't have to abide by that order for a minimum of 21 days. I honestly feel for the guy and his kids.

I have a personal disgust for petty people. Unless the GF is a "danger" to the children or Mom's relationship with children, then Mom should go with the tide.

GF has been living with dad for 2 years, and the custody is week on/week off. There is no danger, except for mom's perception (they had a baby 6 months ago, so the mom is now PO'd and has excelerated her 'complaints'). Mom has no problem with them being with GF when it's convenient for her, so this makes no sense to me. The new order specifically states that he is allowed to have a third party pick up the children, and names the GF specifically, yet mom is now finding other excuses to avoid doing this (the whole 21 day thing is only the beginning based on past situations). I, like you, do not understand people who do this to their children.

Dad will just have to ride it out till the new order is in effect.

That's what is funny... the actual wording was '21 day trial period' (they changed the drop off/pick up time for midweek visitation from Mon to Sun) to be effective immediately. The woman just doesn't get it. They are supposed to go back to court in three weeks to give their input as to how this is working out . How can you tell the court how something is working out if you don't abide by it? I have encouraged him to work with this woman for the past 18 months, but I'm really having a hard time doing this at this point.
