Default My Lawyer is Charging Too Much

    I live in NC.
I have problem with my lawyer.
My lawyer recalculated the child support amount and contact with my ex husband's lawyer for new child support amount.
But his lawyer didn't response for 4 months. During 4 months, my lawyer contact to his lawyer by sending letter and calling phone, which caused too expensive fee. He told me it is already over $ 1500. He will add more for the official divorce court later. I asked my lawyer for receipt, but he said he can't send now and will send after the court(July 12th)

I feel this is not fair. I am deaf and receiving SSDI from government. My lawyer knows this situation, but he charged me too high fee. Is this normal ? Or is he using me ??

My husband didn't pay to his own lawyer, so his lawyer didn't response right away, it is his fault, but why should I pay such expensive money?
I already paid $2700 for separation agreement process last year.....
    I really NEED help!!

Your attorney's fees are governed by the retainer agreement you signed with him. If you contracted to pay the fees he's charging, he's simply holding you to that agreement. If you're being billed by the hour, as is usually the case for a custody or support matter, you will be billed for the lawyer's time spent on tasks such as writing letters or conferring with others by phone.

You can talk to your lawyer about the potential for trying to recover fees from your ex-, but note that your lawyer will charge you for the time invested in such a motion whether or not you prevail.
