Default 22107 VC - Unsafe Turn

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: CA
I exited the freeway by crossing the "gore area" - the triangular-shaped zone formed by the single white lines. The cop was in front of me, let me pass and then pulled me over and gave a ticket - 22107 VC - Unsafe Turn.
I want to fight it by written declaration and get as many extensions as I can. My defense will be that there was debris in the lane I was driving in and that I had to swerve to avoid hitting it (this happen in a construction zone with foreign objects being common on the freeway; I'll be sure to mention that in my statement). I'll also take some pictures of the area to show the debris and construction work.
Please let me know if this is a good approach and defense.

It's better than nothing. Can you document that other cars were also finding a need to avoid the debris?
