Default Probation Fines Paid, but They Say Still Owed

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Tennessee
I was arrested and given probation in November 2000 for a misdemeanor charge. After paying all fines and six months of supervised probation (and Community Service of course) I was released. Ten years later in June 2010, I receive a letter from a debt collector saying I have unpaid fines relating to this charge. The city where I received the charge says they cannot provide any information because the case is so old. I have been to court since and no warrant was ever issued for these unpaid fines. I have also maintained the same address and no attempt to contact me was ever made. Do I have any recourse in this situation?

Tell the debt collector that you dispute the charges. Ask them to provide proof of the debt.
