So I see Virginia just loves to give out these reckless driving tickets. Anyway I got one in Fairfax County for being in the upper 70's in a 55 (I wasn't violating the reckless driving law in any other way-I was also just going with the flow of traffic-not that the judge will care). Even the officer who I was polite too seemed to imply that when I went to court it would probably be reduced to a regular speeding ticket in the range of less than 100 dollars. Is this accurate information? So let me also ask this what happens when I go to court? If I ask to talk to the prosecuter to have the charges reduced and they won't do it, can I then hire an attorney later? Would it be possible if I agree to do driving school that they would wave the whole thing entirely? Given I wasn't in a construction zone how much is a regular speeding ticket? Any other advice?
My driving record is currently completely clean (in the 03-05 range I got two tickets in another state but neither were for being reckless and I think they were reduced to something even below the speeding and failure to yield violations that I was charged with and I didn't have to go to court for either one). I drive a smaller sedan and I won't even talk on a cell phone let alone text while I drive-not that any of this would matter to a judge-but I am hardly a reckless driver.
