Default Rental Advertisement Bait and Switch

    In Orlando, Florida.

Some friends and I were searching for a rental property around the UCF area, and located a house that was perfectly suited to our needs. It was advertised (on craigslist) as a 6 bedroom house for $2000 dollars a month, which we then verbally confirmed with the landlord's representatives when we saw the house. The next day however, we were contacted by the representatives and told that because we were not a family, we could only rent out the rooms individually-- and at a much higher aggregate cost that we could not afford.

I have electronic records of my correspondence with the landlord's representatives. My first move will be to try and negotiate with him in good faith, but based on the condition of the house, his representatives' disorganization, and how business has gone so far, I doubt he will honor the advertised price of his own free will. Obviously, I'd rather not bring suit against a potential landlord (and I barely have the means to anyway,) but is there any legal recourse by which myself and my friends could seek remedy?

    Thank you for your help.

"Bait and Switch" is a federal offense when it comes to home sales. I don't know for sure about rentals/leases. I believe that is state level.

I would check with a lawyer. And you may want to file a complaint with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
