I have an upcoming unemployment appeal against a large international company based in US that I worked at for over 4 plus years.
As a desktop computer support technician & from the encouragement of my employer, I obtained my Microsoft desktop support certification, to enhance my on the job call handling and support. In order to further develop my job skills & self development I took the initiative to get hands more on experience form the knowledge I gained. In excess of a year, on company time, co-workers, supervisors, & directors alike solicited me via company email to work on their personal computers at my home. The company more than benefited from the knowledge I gained and this was clearly reflected in my evaluations. I had no reason to believe what I was doing was not job related or could be considered violation of company policy.
All of my written evaluations rate me as exceeding expectations; none of them reference any policy violation. In my personnel file the only written documentation is outstanding awards, excellent evaluations, 100% QC, risk & customer service audits.
If this behavior was violation of company policy, why was this not addressed immediately & why am I the only associate being held accountable?
I have print out of director’s emails to me regarding these personal repairs, I do not have all emails but I do have some printed out I also have a printed email from a co worker who sent email regarding fishing tide charts and recipes something that is clearly not job related, he has also been written up 3 times for missing work and being late yet he has not been terminated nor warned about this behavior.
Do I stand a good chance of winning the unemployment compensation appeal based on these facts? Or is there things I should not say or say differently?
