My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: virginia
Ok so basically me and my wife had a apartment in our names and i had a friend that worked where i did and was living with his mom. well i offered him a place if he payed half of all the bills which were rent and electric. Well for the 2 years we were there he only payed about a years worth of bills and i would of kicked him out when it started but we needed what money we could get no matter what. So now neither him or we live in the apartment and he still owes us around $3400 in past due rent and electric. But hes not paying anything or returning our calls. He thinks he can do it on his own time and that we just need to wait on him, but we just want this nightmare out of our lives. Now he agreed to pay the set amount when he moved in so is he legally bound to pay us what he owes. And also is there like a letter i can send him stating that he is legally bound to pay it or ill take him to court. And its not like were being hard on him we told him all we want is like $400 a month till its all payed back but hes a child. thank you for ur help.
