My question involves criminal law for the state of: Oregon
Hello, I am 17 years old, me and my friend, also 17 shoplifted a Rockstar energy drink and a Mountain Dew. We left and got away. At school, the school officer was notified of us and was given a picture of us. He identified us and told us to go to the police station at 2:30, we did as we were told. The officer incharge of this case sat us down, told us our rights and then proceeded to question us. My friend said "well, heres the story" the cop imedietly stoped him and told us that he had video footage of our crime. He said that we went in and selected our drinks, and continued to say that i grabbed a plastic bag from an empty cheeck out isle, and that we went and hid behind a stand and put the drinks in the bag and that we walked out of the store. This was all true and dead on, so the cop asked "do you just want to admit it or tell me some story?" so my friend admited it. We called our parents to release us and while on there way we were finger printed and had our "mug shots" We got theft 3 with a fine "To be set"
Does anyone have any legal advise. My friend said he would call safeway and appologize and ask if there would be anyways to have the charges droped, he says that he is going to be sincere and honest when speaking to the manager, he hasnt yet, does any one recomend or not recomend that? also, if we are charged, if we are honest will we have more of a chance of get off easy? If we have a plea agreement what will the charges be? Can I and or my friend ask to take jail/juviele hall time instead of fines and community service?
I admit that this was really really stupid on our part, we were not using our best judgment and we are sincerely sorry? would e-mailing the safeway manager help instead of calling? What do you recomend?
