I am in the hiring process at a very large company in my state. They are requiring background checks, and I happened to have a link to the court records website for the state I live in. I have many minor things on my record from the last 9 years such as, speeding tickets, parking violations, expired registration etc. However, what worries me is the fact that about 4 years ago, I have 2 bounced check misdemeanors and about 3 years ago I had a credit card fraud misdemeanor as well. All were found guilty and all were paid, however, there truly were extenuating circumstances to each of them. I went to the website and found everything on file, except the credit card fraud case. Why isn't it there, when I saw it there about 3 months ago? Is that charge (credit card fraud) something that will bar me from employment there, and should I put it on my application? What if they don't give me the chance to explain what actually happened? I am divorced and NEED this job to support our 4 children. I have a good job now, but this is a career move. I confronted my current employer right away and told them about this misdemeanor before the issue arose, and they hired me anyway because I was upfront and honest. What should I do?![]()
