My question involves criminal law for the state of: Maryland
I'm going to make a long story short because it seems like all the stories about underage drinking read pretty much the same.
I got an alcohol citation, and I am between age 18-21. My concern isn't the citation itself, I really don't plan on fighting it.
I received the citation over my summer vacation about a week ago. I do not live in Maryland, I live nearly 1,000 miles away. My court date, I was told (I don't have it yet), was going to be at least 6 weeks from now. I will likely be in school by then and really don't have the means to make it back to Maryland any time between now and my next break.
I am NOT trying to evade the citation, just trying to see if there are ANY steps that I can take to simplify this. I will pay any fines, or fulfill any community service or whatever if I need to do to make this easier. I know in some situations you can petition the court for a new date, but this probably won't do me much good.
I understand attending my court date is very, very important, I was just trying to ask around to see if there are any other means to take care of this issue from a distance. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.
