My question involves child support in the State of: Arizona
My stepdaughter was supposed to graduate from high school last month, which would end her child support. She fell one class short and her mom told us this just two days before the big day. She is enrolled in an online class, but not sure when she will complete high school. However, just a week before the original graduation date, her mom was forced to move from her home due to foreclosure and did not welcome the daughter into her new home. We did not find any of this out until this last week since the mom lead us to believe she was still at home, and by the time we offered her to move in with us, the daughter had already found an apartment and started living on her own. We had already started the process to stop the child support thinking she was going to graduate, but the mom is refusing to sign saying that until the daughter graduates, it's her right to collect the support. According to AZ law, that is true, accept she did kick her daughter out! I did notice that the courts due accept deviations to the guidelines- hoping this is one they would consider? The daughter has money in the bank, is enrolled in school, is planning on continuing education in a beauty school, and has a roommate. The mom is clearly in financial dire straits with two foreclosures on going and several debts, so of course she wants the extra money and not have a a child at home to pay for!
