My question involves criminal law for the state of: Washington
I was caught urinating behind a garbage can in the city of Bellevue, WA. According to the city ordinance 10.04.040 Urinating in public.
It doesn't describe the penalties for such an action...which worries me.A person is guilty of urinating in public if he or she intentionally urinates or defecates in a public place, other than a washroom or toilet room, or at a place and under circumstances where such act could be observed by any member of the public. Every person who violates this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor
This is my first offense and I don't want this to be on my record (I am applying for engineering jobs atm). I have talked to a few lawyers and they are trying to charge my $1500 minimum for this case. I work 15-20 hr/week at minimum wage and can't afford this, plus I didn't qualify for the public defender...is there a way I can talk with the prosecutor and get a deal for some sort of infraction + fine that won't go on my record (such as littering or something else)?
I kind of screwed myself by giving a voluntary statement so I'm done for if I try to plead not guilty and the cop shows up.
If I plead guilty, will they most likely give me a misdemeanor, or something lesser because I am expediting the process?
