My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: IA/CO
My boyfriend has had a car sitting idle in Colorado for about 10 years. He let the registration expire in Iowa (where he first owned it) -- neither renewing nor cancelling it there. He never registered it in Colorado, but hasn't been driving it, either. He also has lost the title. Now we're getting to the point where we need to sell it, donate it or otherwise get it out of the garage. He's afraid that if he requests a copy of the title from the Iowa DMV, they'll present him with an armload of back fees or penalties or... you know, legal bogeymen of some kind.
What can we expect as we try to sort through this issue? What are the financial and legal ramifications?
Any help appreciated!
