Default What is the Difference Between a Battery Charge and a DV Charge

My question involves criminal law for the state of: california

I was arrested for DV recently - I am going to court tomorow. My boyfriend talked to the DA today and they said that they would try to get the DV charge reduced to a simple battery charge. From the looks of it- aren't the same in severity? Are they both 3 years probation? Dont they both look equally bad on your record?

oh- also this is a misdemeanor charge BTW

What exact charges are we talking about? You could be getting a charge of DV causing injrury, for example, reduced to a simple assault.
