    Default Collections and Old Debt

I received a letter from a collection agency stating they bought the old debt from another collection agency and they are trying to collect on the accounts. I had a credit card at Kay Jewelers and could not pay the balance when I divorced my ex-husband. The debt is 16-17 years old. My credit was bad for 7 years because of this account and others I had. My credit is wonderful now. My question is if I do not pay this extremely old debt, will it show up on my credit report now? I live in Texas. It even stated in the collection letter that the debt had been written off. What should I do to keep my excellent credit?

    Default Re: Old Debt

You may wish to take a look at the sample letter objecting to a debt on the basis of the statute of limitations from this thread. The statute of limitations in Texas was probably four years.
