My question involves civil rights in the State of: Virginia

Can a candidate running for a Virginia County Sheriff be taken off the ballet if the current Sheriff of the county (who supports another candidate) obtains 50 signatures of current office employees who say they "will not work" for the candidate if elected?
Well, I imagine you mean ballot, which is used in voting, rather than ballet, which is form of dance.

There is no provision in Virginia law that provides for removing an otherwise qualified candidate from the ballot simply because a number of employees of the department the candidate would lead if he/she won say they “will not work” for that candidate. Those employees are free to quit if the candidate gets elected. Good luck to them finding jobs in other sheriffs’ departments if they do that.

Frankly, if I were a voter in that county and the current sheriff pulled that stunt of trying to remove a competing candidate by bringing his/her employees into the fight to sway the election (using who knows what pressure on them to sign) that would make me much less inclined to vote to keep that sheriff in office. It’s a pretty low way to try to win a campaign. If the sheriff can’t make the case that his record is good enough to withstand the challenge then he/she doesn’t deserve to be reelected.
