My question involves employment and labor law for the state of: CA
I have been dealing with this for years now. Just recently, my work made it mandatory to shut down my computer at the end of the day. The computer I have is not very fast and takes about 5+ minutes, to get going. Due to the fact that our time clock is web based, we need to have the computer up and running with IE open, before we can log in and time stamp.
We are expected to be here early(or risk being late), so we can time stamp on time. Before now, i have always left my computer running, so i wouldnt have to deal with getting to work early, but now, its a problem since we are required to shut down daily(if you dont shut down, they will force the computer off by holding the off button). I feel that as soon as i am here, and ready to work, i should start getting paid. At 5 minutes a day, we are talking 21.6 hours a year! Which is a lot.
Is there anything i can do about this? Is this legal?
