Default Re: Going to Court for a Name Change Petition

If you have filed all the proper forms and have a hearing on Monday then all you will need to do is tell the Judge why you want to change your name. If it is for legitimate reasons you should have no problem.

The court must find that the requested name change is consistent with the public interest. A person is not allowed to change their name in order to avoid judgments or legal actions against him or her, or to avoid debts and obligations. A person can not change their name to defraud any person.

So be prepared to answer any questions that might be asked, bring your proof of publication for the name change and any documents that might help to answer those questions that may be asked.
