My question involves criminal law for the state of: Minnesota
A few months before I got off parole I was told that the state of Minnesota charges $300 for providing the parole supervision. I asked the parole officer for a fee waiver since I am disabled and receive SSI. If anyone would qualify for a fee waiver it would be me. I was told, first, that there was no fee waiver. Later I was told by the parole officer that he would ask his supervisor about it. The next meeting he told me the supervisor denied my request. I was never given a form to fill out and never received any denial in writing. Fast forward 11 months, now. My renters rebate from the state was to be $642 but I got $327 because the DOC took the $300 out of it and also charged me an extra $15 for taking it. I contacted DOC about it and requested a waiver form. Oddly enough there was in fact a form available and the parole officer who said there wasn't one actually is named on it as one of two signatures needed to approve it. So he basically willfully lied to me to imposed a financial hardship that should have been waived.
The DOC in Minnesota has a very poor working relationship with offenders. They automatically assume that everything an offender tells them is a lie or a scam. Therefore they have no compunctions about readily lying to offenders. I have seen this time and again while I was in prison and while on parole. My question is what can I do to recover the funds I was wrongly charged and what can I do about this lying parole officer?
