Default Dealer Hasn't Transferred Title and Temporary Tags Have Expired

My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: Georgia

I purchased a used car from a licensed dealer 2 months ago, I paid the car in full with a cashiers check for $8900. They have given me 2 temporary tags while they claim to be transferring the title so I can get permanent tags. My bill of sale states the vehicle is free of any liens or incumbrances. They avoid my calls, when I have gone to the lot they tell me they are working on it. Any help would be appreciated!

Did you get your registration form? Title can take 2 months to process.

No I haven't received anything. I checked with the tag office and they show the vehicle registration hasn't been transferred yet. Salesman acknowledges they haven't turned in the paperwork for the title/registration transfer yet. It has never taken more than a few weeks with all the cars I have purchased in the last 20 years!

Well, go into the dealer and ask for the paperwork and the cash to do it yourself ... if they don't then file a small claims case.

It appears that the transaction may be void ....

The vehicle’s title is the legal document that shows vehicle ownership. It includes the names of each person who owns the vehicle, and a title transfer must take place within 30 days of any of those names changing.

    from: http://www.dmv.org/ga-georgia/title-transfers.php

Which summarizes the title laws .. you would have to look at the GA statues for exact statutory cites.

Thanks - I have asked for the paperwork on numerous occasions, told the owner has it - not at this location (they don't have any other locations). They do have 30 days under GA law to transfer title, I will send a certified letter today, once again requesting title. I have filed a complaint with the Secretary of State, Used Car licensing bureau. Headed to the tag office to see if they can offer any assistance. I have a copy of the title application that was completed at the point of sale and the previous title number from my carfax report, don't know if that will help.
