My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: California

I received a ticket for driving straight at an intersection with a sign posted "Right Turn Only". I misinterpreted the sign to mean "no left turn". Are there any grounds to contest the ticket in court? Note: I violated two signs in a row, which the officer noted on the summons.

The officer also noted that I did not have possession of insurance or registration (which I later found under my seat). However the only violation listed is the failure to obey posted sign. Under "Evidence of Financial Responsibility", he wrote "N.I.P" and under Registered Owner he also wrote "N.I.P." Would not having these documents in my possession increase the fine amount if they are not listed in the Violations section?

Thanks
